Andre Cronje, a prolific software developer in decentralized finance (DeFi), founder of Yearn Finance, Keep3r (V1), and later Solidly. Andre announced his retirement in early March 2022[1] although still occasionaly writes about cryptocurrencies on his personal blog[2].

Personal Life

Born in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. Andre Cronje attended Stellenbosch University in 2001 to 2003, studied LLB, Law. In 2005, He received trainings in CTI Education Group at Johannesburg Gauteng, where he was taught computer science intricacies, software engineering, and principles of project management.

Career

Cronje began his early career as a lecturer at Computer Training Institute in South Africa from 2005 to September 2006. Later he took on the role as Technical Team Leader at Vodacom. In January 2009, he served as the CTO under International Mobile Protection Initiative. During his early career, he took on number of roles as mobile developer and several managerial position to develop mobile application, game, and website, to help company position products to development and client needs. Later in August 2013, he worked as a software architect in Full Facing (Pte) Ltd. Following that, he served as the head of technology to innovate on financial systems before his career at the blockchain scene.

Early in the scene, Cronje took on positions as advisor at BitDiem, Aggero, and Kosmos Capital. He was then credited on working with other reputable projects, including Lemniscap, FUSION Foundation, Fantom Foundation, and Crypto Briefing before his breakthrough success into DeFi with iEarn during DeFi Summer, which later renamed to Yearn Finance.[3]
